We are the only organization that delivers essential services and personalized support to connect the people living in poverty among us to the full range of resources and services they need. More than just ensuring our clients are fed, clothed, healthy, and housed, we help them create their own stability and remain an active, successful part of the community. Over recent years, more and more families in San Mateo County have been thrust into poverty. From the COVID-19 pandemic, to increasing wealth inequality, to the impacts of inflation and the housing crisis, the financial pressures on our neighbors have grown. Burlingame students won awards in all three categories of the second annual CEC Student Film Fest on March 19 for their short videos on environmental topics. The event was cosponsored by the <a href="http://cecburlingame.org" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Citizens Environmental Council of Burlingame</a> (CEC) and the <a href="http://burlingamefilmfest.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Burlingame Environmental Club</a> of Burlingame High School. Open to students throughout San Mateo County, the contest attracted 30 entries. In the photo, San Mateo County Supervisor Dave Pine (far left) and CEC Chair Mike McCord (far right), congratulate the student winners. They are (from left) Cole Fletchall-Silva of Burlingame High School, accepting on behalf of the high school winner, Mark Mangano; Mika Haggarty of Lincoln School in Burlingame, accepting on behalf of herself and Olivia McGlynn (of Our Lady of Angels in Burlingame) in the grades 4-5 division; and Alison Saunders of Burlingame Intermediate School. Alison was also the Grand Prize winner. Her video, "The Trash Task," will be shown at the San Francisco Green Film Festival in September.
