Take a step back in time to when Ed Sullivan was king of TV and teens fainted at the sight of their rock ‘n’ roll idol! You can enjoy all the comedy and rocker hysteria of those days in the community production of BYE BYE BIRDIE, featuring a talented cast of adults and students from San Carlos Children’s Theater. Performances on May 8 and 9 at 7 pm / May 10 at 1 pm in Mustang Hall, 828 Chestnut St., San Carlos.
Life gets turned upside down when Elvis-inspired rock star Conrad Birdie (Travis Mathers) visits a small Midwestern town to make his farewell TV performance and kiss his biggest fan before joining the Army. It all begins when down-on-his-luck talent agent Albert Peterson (Seth Rosenblatt) realizes he is going to lose business when Birdie is drafted into the army. Albert’s girlfriend and assistant, Rosie Alvarez (Caitlin Savage), brilliantly develops a publicity stunt to have Birdie give “One Last Kiss” to one lucky girl from his fan club before shipping out. The lucky girl chosen is 15-year-old Kim MacAfee (Katie Mannion / Katie Benway ) from Sweet Apple, Ohio, who has just started going steady with Hugo Peabody (Bryce Stephens ). Jealousy and hilarity ensue and continue right to the end.
Featuring dynamic dance numbers and such Broadway hits as “Put on a Happy Face” and “Got a Lot of Livin’ To Do,” this Tony-winning musical comedy will delight audiences of all ages. Parents of young children should note the show contains some mild adult themes and language.
