A popular app called <a href="https://zello.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Zello</a>
that turns your cell phone into a walkie-talkie has become a trusted tool that allows people, including emergency responders, to communicate with one another. The <a href="https://burlingamenetwork.org" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Burlingame Neighborhood Network</a>
(BNN) plans to use this app during the Burlingame Disaster Response Drill
on October 3 to enable neighbors to talk with one another during the drill. 

To help you learn how to use Zello, Rik Kasuga, a BNN board member who leads communications during BNN’s drills and serves as the city’s CERT Volunteer Program Coordinator, will host monthly BNN Zello Workshops. The next one will be on Thursday, May 28, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Upper Level Meeting Room at the Burlingame Public Library. Before you come, Rik requests that you download the Zello app on your cell phone. More information about how to do that is <a href="https://burlingamenetwork.org/resources/emergency-communications/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">available here</a>. In addition to your cell phone, please bring your FRS radio, if you have one, for a short refresher about its use during the drill this year.
Once you have become familiar with Zello, you are welcome to join the BNN Zello Net which is held on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7:30 p.m. You may just want to listen in on the BNN Zello Net Channel, but at the Workshop you will also learn how to participate!

CHEERS TO THE ANIMALS! Join the shelter animals at the Peninsula Humane Society for their annual Bark n' Brewfest on June 27, 2-5pm in West Washington Park, Burlingame. The Bark n’ Brewfest is a dog-friendly beer tasting featuring local brewers (plus wine and hard kombucha). Tickets are $50 now through Memorial Day, then $60 until event day, and $70 on event day. All funds raised go towards our incredible Hope Program, created for the vulnerable animals in our shelter who need our help the most.

We are the only organization that delivers essential services and personalized support to connect the people living in poverty among us to the full range of resources and services they need. More than just ensuring our clients are fed, clothed, healthy, and housed, we help them create their own stability and remain an active, successful part of the community. Over recent years, more and more families in San Mateo County have been thrust into poverty. From the COVID-19 pandemic, to increasing wealth inequality, to the impacts of inflation and the housing crisis, the financial pressures on our neighbors have grown. Through it all, Samaritan House has been here to help – keeping pace with the demand and opening up new possibilities for people living in poverty. Though the road ahead is uncertain, we remain steadfast to our commitment to helping over 32,000 of our neighbors living in poverty every year.
