California Has 12 Of The 50 Richest Towns In America: Bloomberg

A Bloomberg report identified the 50 richest towns in America, and 12 California towns are on it.

ATHERTON, CA — A Bloomberg report recently identified the richest towns in the United States, and 12 communities in California landed in the coveted top 50.

The richest town in America is Atherton, California, where households earn more than $525,324 annually. It was the only community with an average household income of more than a half-million dollars since Bloomberg started compiling the list in 2017.

In Atherton, the cheapest house on the market is currently listed for $2.5 million, according to Bloomberg. Additionally, multiple tech billionaires have called the town home, including Google's Eric Schmidt and Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg.

Golden State Warrior star Steph Curry also bought an Atherton estate in 2019 for $31 million.

Bloomberg provides a list of both the 100 and 250 richest towns in America.

"In general, the East and West Coasts dominate the top 100 list. California takes up 23 places, while the tri-state area of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey accounts for 32," authors of the Bloomberg list wrote. "Middle America is slowly gaining some ground. States including Illinois and Minnesota added one new listing in this year's index, while Texas gained two."
