California Virtual Academies Congratulates Hundreds of 2013 Graduates

California Virtual Academies (CAVA), a statewide, online public school serving students in Kindergarten through 12th grade, honored more than 700 high school graduates during five in-person 2013 graduation ceremonies held throughout California.

Many of the CAVA graduates earned their diploma without having spent time in a physical classroom. CAVA is a tuition-free, full-time school where students learn online in a cyber-classroom and with hands-on materials with California-certified teachers and the award-winning K12 curriculum. Each student works toward graduation with a comprehensive learning plan for a student-centered education focused on their unique learning needs, goals, and interests.

Full-time, online public schools like CAVA are a path to graduation, careers and college chosen by a growing number of students whose needs were not being met by traditional education models. The individualized attention and flexible education offered at CAVA helps students maximize their strengths and overcome challenges.

“At CAVA, we’re able to use an individualized approach to help students thrive and learn, and to prepare them for graduation and beyond,” said CAVA high school teacher Kristin Bryant. “We're proud to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of each of our graduates and we’re excited to see what they’ll do next."

Graduates from CAVA celebrated and met many of their peers and teachers in person for the first time at ceremonies in San Diego, San Gabriel, Yucaipa, and two in Vacaville. There are also Kindergarten and Eighth Grade Promotions being held across the state.

Valedictorians Kristina Schultz and Taylor Sega took advantage of CAVA’s flexible education model to devote extra time to lessons they needed more help with, and to exploring subjects they may not have otherwise had the opportunity to delve into.  Both mastered AP and Honors level courses.

CAVA is a fully accredited school and graduates from the class of 2013 will be attending universities and colleges across the country and state including Juilliard, Azusa Pacific University, USC and Northern Arizona University, as well as going on to careers and military service.

“Embracing the combination of technology and highly-qualified teachers transforms education at CAVA to help students thrive,” said Katrina Abston, Senior Head of School at CAVA. “Students are supported in mastering concepts which helps set them up for success after high school.”

“These students exemplify the achievement families see when they are given the option to choose something other than a one-sized-fits all approach to learning,” said Abston . “We’re very proud of each of our graduates and of the work of the teachers and parents who supported their education.”
