County Receives Financial Reporting Award
Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada bestows award on San Mateo County.

For the 13th time in a row, the San Mateo County Controller's Office has received a "Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting" by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, the county manager's office reported.
The award, announced by the controller's office on Tuesday, is for the county's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2012. The achievement certificate is the highest form of recognition in the governmental accounting and financial reporting arena, according to Controller Bob Alder. The awards are determined by an impartial panel who reviews the CAFR.
"We are pleased to receive this award on behalf of the Board of Supervisors, department executives and the fiscal staff of the county," Alder said. "It evidences their commitment to the highest standards of transparent and accurate financial reporting for the taxpayers of San Mateo County."
In addition to the county's audited financial statements and the like, the CAFR contains information about the local economy, county government structure, future financial plans, policies and projects.
