DUI Checkpoint in Burlingame This Weekend, Police Announce

Operation planned ahead of New Year's holiday.

BURLINGAME, CA – Burlingame police are planning a DUI/driver's license checkpoint this weekend, officials announced Thursday.

The operation will be held Friday at an undisclosed location within city limits, police said. It will begin at 6 p.m. and run through 2 a.m. Saturday.

"The deterrent effect of high visibility enforcement using both DUI checkpoints and DUI Saturation
Patrols has proven to lower the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug impaired crashes," Burlingame Police Sgt. Jim Ford said in a news release. "Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well publicized proactive DUI operations are conducted routinely."
