Duo Suspected in Series of Peninsula Burglaries Caught in Burlingame Hills

Sheriff's officials say the man and woman brought a U-Haul truck to the scene of an attempted burglary.

A couple that has allegedly been burglarizing homes around the Peninsula was arrested last week after witnesses noticed one of them trying to break into a home in unincorporated Burlingame, San Mateo County sheriff's officials said Monday.

Ryan Thompson, 29, of Burlingame, and his girlfriend Brooke Benjamin, 43, of Millbrae, were arrested and booked into Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City on suspicion of burglary and conspiring to commit a crime. Thompson and Benjamin's bail was set at $200,000 each.

Deputies were first called to the 100 block of Alturas Drive in the Burlingame Hills area at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday on a report that a man was trying to break into a house, but the pair had left in a tan U-Haul truck
before deputies arrived.

Deputies found the pair with the help of witnesses after the two left the scene of the attempted burglary. Further investigation tied them to additional burglaries in San Carlos and Millbrae, according to the sheriff's
office.
