Elderly Wheelchair-Bound Man Hit, Killed On El Camino Real

Police say the elderly man, who has since been identified by coroner's officials, was crossing El Camino Real when he was struck by a van.

SAN BRUNO, CA — A wheelchair-bound man was killed as he crossed El Camino Real in San Bruno this week, police said Thursday. The 70-year-old has since been identified by the coroner's office as San Bruno resident Rajendra Prasad.

The incident happened just after 6 a.m. Wednesday along ECR at Santa Lucia Avenue, according to San Bruno Police Sgt. Gene Wong.

"Officers determined that [the man] was crossing El Camino Real in a wheelchair when he was struck by a van traveling southbound on El Camino Real," Wong said in a news release. "The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene."

Wong did not say if Prasad was in a crosswalk. The victim was taken to a local trauma center, where he later died.
