It’s redistricting time! Following the 2010 census, redistricting will take place on the national, state and local levels. California now has a Citizens Redistricting Commission to draw the lines for some districts which were previously drawn by the California Legislature. How does it work?
The League of Women Voters of North and Central San Mateo County will hold a public forum on Redistricting on June 16. The purpose of the meeting is to increase awareness of the redistricting process and of how to get involved in this new process for drawing Congressional, California Legislature and Board of Equalization boundaries by the new Citizens Redistricting Commission. Speakers will give practical advice: from defining “communities of interest” to map-drawing to making effective presentations at the Commission hearing when it meets in San Francisco on June 27.
The forum is supported by funds from the League of Women Voters of California Education Fund to the LWVNCSMC through a grant from the League of Women Voters Education Fund and the Open Society Foundation.
