New laws aimed at phasing out single-use plastic foodware and encouraging composting are a key component of local efforts to address climate change. The Citizens Environmental Council invites you to a free program explaining these laws and how you can help on Wednesday, March 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Burlingame’s new zero-waste-energy Community Center at 850 Burlingame Ave. in Burlingame.
Called “Get Up to Speed on Disposable Foodware and Composting,” the program will feature Collette Sanchez and Jack Steinmann, who are both Sustainability Specialists with the County of San Mateo Office of Sustainability. They will discuss the county’s ordinance to reduce single-use plastic foodware, including cups, clamshells, straws and utensils, and California’s new organics collection and composting requirements. They’ll also explain how you can help and will provide information on free composting classes.
