How to Boost Your Online Store Sales
Why do some stores perform better than other stores? Why is it that two stores in the same industry that get the same amount of traffic can make drastically different amounts of sales?
Why do some stores perform better than other stores? Why is it that two stores in the same industry that get the same amount of traffic can make drastically different amounts of sales?
It comes down to how well optimized your online store is. When you first launch your store, you're probably only collecting 50% or less of the total amount you can earn once you've optimized your site.
Here are a few ways to boost your online sales.
==> Test Different Layouts
What products should you put on your front page? What theme should you use? Where should you put your navigation bars? Where should you put product recommendations?
These are all things you can test. Don't just make your placements based on aesthetics, but actually try different variations and see how they affect sales.
==> Cross Sales and Upsells
A very high percentage of your profits will come from upsells and cross sells.
Anytime someone buys a product, try to recommend a few other products for them. Do this both before the checkout process and after the checkout process.
==> Optimize Your Site's Load Time
There's nothing more frustrating than trying to browse an online store that's loading slowly. It's also unprofessional and erodes trust.
Keep in mind that a lot of people will want to browse many products before buying. They'll often open as many as ten different products all at once using tabbed browsing. Your server needs to be able to respond to these kinds of requests with blazing speeds.
If you're still on VPS or shared hosting, seriously consider getting an ecommerce optimized dedicated server.
==> Use Promotions
Have a spring sale. Have a Mother's Day sale. Have a Christmas sale. If you run out of reasons, just have a "January Sale."
Come up with different promotions and use them to boost your sales. This can be an incredibly effective way to get a lot of sales in a short period of time.
==> Increase Your Payment Options
Are you accepting PayPal? Are you accepting American Express and Discovery? If you're not, you're probably losing sales.
Are you accepting orders by phone? There's a certain segment of the population that just won't order anything online. Even in the high-tech age, there's a very affluent low-tech crowd that buys online. You may even find that placing a phone number increases sales just because it builds trust; often without anyone actually calling to order.
Finally, consider giving payment plans for high end items.
The easier you make it for people to pay you, the more money you'll make.
These are a few things you can do right now to boost your online sales. You don't need to get more traffic; these tips will just use your existing traffic to give you a nice boost.
