Is the Burlingame City Council Skirting Public Input On Tree Issue?

An online petition to save 100-year old heritage oak trees is picking up steam but many residents approached have expressed dismay at the timing of the Burlingame City Council's review of this item. Seasoned community outreach professionals, but even the general public, seem to understand that it is unusual to schedule items for public input during holiday weeks as it severely limits the opportunity for the public to provide input. The 4th of July week in particular is one in which many residents of Burlingame and Hillsborough typically schedule vacations and leave the area. But the Burlingame City Council has denied requests from residents to move the item to a future date that would afford more public review and input. Community residents deserve to have public officials uphold the spirit of the law. They most certainly should not be skirting public review when making a decision regarding a matter held important to so many residents.
