Man Dies In Burlingame Moped Crash

BREAKING: Police shut down part of a local roadway on Friday to investigate the deadly crash.

BURLINGAME, CA — Burlingame police on Friday were investigating a deadly crash that happened in town. A man, who was riding a moped, died Thursday after colliding with a truck on El Camino Real, officials said.

On Friday, police issued the following alert, asking residents to stay clear of a part of town while they looked into the crash:

The Burlingame Police Department is asking the public to avoid El Camino Real between Floribunda Ave and Chapin Ave. this morning, specifically between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM.

Only emergency vehicles and buses will be permitted through the intersection, due to a major injury traffic collision investigation. Thank you for your assistance, and apologies for the inconvenience.

The crash occurred about 12:15 p.m. Thursday as a 59-year-old man was in the area of El Camino Real and Bellevue Avenue, police said. The moped driver — who has not yet been publicly identified — was taken to Stanford University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The truck driver remained on scene and was cooperative, said Burlingame Police Lt. Jay Kiely.

Police are investigating the incident, and part of the reason for Friday's road closure was to measure tire marks and gather other evidence.
