One Hospitalized, 5 Displaced in Peninsula Fire: UPDATED

BREAKING: Video from the scene showed firefighters using a chainsaw to access the house.

SAN MATEO, CA – One person was hospitalized with burn injuries and their house was red-tagged following a fire on Wednesday, San Mateo fire officials report.

The blaze was reported at 10:25 a.m. in the the 900 block of S El Dorado Street, near 9th Avenue and South Delaware Street.

"The first fire unit (Engine 24) was on the scene in 4 minutes and 36 seconds and reported a 1 story single family residence with fire visible from the front door and window, as well as heavy smoke coming from the rear of the residence," the fire department said.

Firefighters posted a video from the scene, which showed crews accessing the home's garage with a chainsaw. Black smoke could be seen billowing into the sky.

Firefighters say they searched the home and treated a person for a burn injury. That person was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

A total of five people were displaced as a result of the blaze.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation and the building has been red tagged due to the amount of damage sustained from the incident," the fire department said.
