More than just ensuring our clients are fed, clothed, healthy, and housed, we help them create their own stability and remain an active, successful part of the community. Over recent years, more and more families in San Mateo County have been thrust into poverty. From the COVID-19 pandemic, to increasing wealth inequality, to the impacts of inflation and the housing crisis, the financial pressures on our neighbors have grown. Through it all, Samaritan House has been here to help – keeping pace with the demand and opening up new possibilities for people living in poverty. BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley Police have arrested two men in connection with a shooting back in July that sent one man to the hospital and left his car partially submerged in the Berkeley Marina. Mateo Calvillo 32, of South San Francisco and Alan Garcia 25, of Richmond were arrested Tuesday following a long investigation. Calvillo is charged with attempted murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and two felony enhancements. Garcia is charged with attempted murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, possession of cocaine for sale, and seven felony enhancements. Both men made their initial court appearances on Thursday.
