Peninsula Police to Fan Out Wednesday in Pedestrian Safety Operation
Officers from various law enforcement agencies throughout San Mateo County will take part in the operation.

Police officers from across the Peninsula will be out looking Wednesday for those violating pedestrian safety laws in a special saturation patrol, officials said Tuesday.
According to Burlingame Police Sgt. Jim Ford, 20 officers are slated to participate in the San Mateo County Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP.
"The STEP program is a collaborative effort to increase traffic safety and awareness in known trouble spots throughout San Mateo County," Ford said in a news release. "[Wednesday's] deployment will focus on pedestrian safety violations and occur in San Bruno and South San Francisco from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m."

The program is run by the San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association. Among other things, officers will be looking out for people who don't use a crosswalk or who don't yield to pedestrians.
"This is the sixth deployment in a number of planned multi-agency saturation deployments scheduled to be performed throughout San Mateo County in 2016," Ford said. "The San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association have all committed to this important safety initiative."
