Peninsula Police Issue 100 Speeding Tickets In One-Day Crackdown
Police targeted roadways that had a history of accidents with high injuries or fatalities where speed was the primary cause of the accident.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA – One hundred drivers received speeding tickets Saturday in South San Francisco after officers conducted a speed crackdown, according to police.
Police said specially trained officers spanned out across the city with state-of-the-art lidar devices checking driver's speeds. Lidar is a highly accurate laser device that measures distances and speeds. The lidar gives the trained officers the capability of locating the fastest moving vehicle on the roadway with an exact reading.
Officers targeted roadways that had a history of accidents with high injuries or fatalities where speed was the primary cause of the accident.

Police said officers gave 100 speeding citations to drivers traveling an average of 15 mph or higher over the posted speed limit.
Additionally, two unlicensed drivers were cited.

Police said the goal of the operation is to remind motorists to drive with caution, obey the speed limit and drive safely.
Funding for the operation was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
