Person Dies After Being Hit on Peninsula Caltrain Tracks: UPDATED

BREAKING: The incident was reported at 2:32 p.m.

BURLINGAME, CA – Caltrain officials say a person was hit on their tracks in Burlingame this afternoon and suffered fatal injuries.

Officials say the man, who has not been identified, was trespassing. The collision occurred near Howard Avenue, just south of the agency's Burlingame station.

Bus shuttles took passengers around the scene until the southbound tracks reopened, allowing trains to single-track through the area as of about 3:15 p.m. There were an estimated 150 to 200 passengers onboard the train, who all derailed in Burlingame.

"The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, but early reports indicate that this was an intentional act, Caltrain Spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.

An autopsy is pending.

This is the 12th fatality of Caltrain's tracks in 2016, she said.
