Police Bust Duo Suspected in 12+ Peninsula Car Break-Ins

Police say the two women were caught when they went to use credit cards taken in one of the thefts.

BELMONT, CA- Belmont police say two San Francisco women are under arrest for their alleged involvement in more than a dozen property thefts in town.

The thefts, which all occurred in just the last week, happened from unlocked cars in Belmont, according to Captain Patrick Halleran.

According to the captain, investigators believe that Joann Alley, 55, and Stephanie Lara, 47, are responsible for over a dozen thefts from vehicles that have occurred since Dec. 1— three of which happened overnight Sunday alone.

“Alley and Lara were arrested at the Bridgepointe Shopping Center in San Mateo where the women had gone to use stolen credit cards taken in additional thefts that occurred overnight in Belmont,” the captain said in a news release.
