San Francisco Named Among 'Hardest Working' Cities in America

San Francisco was the only city in California to be ranked among the top 20.

If you work in San Francisco, maybe it’s time to ask for that raise. Research shows that workers in that city work harder than most others across the nation.

According to WalletHub, the city came in eighth on a list of 116 of the most populated United States cities, after researchers analyzed things like labor force participation rate, average hours worked per week and number of workers with multiple jobs.

  • 1) Anchorage, AK, 40.7 average workweek hours, 79.21% labor force participation rate
  • 2) Virginia Beach, VA , 40.1 average workweek hours, 77.80% labor force participation rate
  • 3) Plano, TX , 40.6 average workweek hours, 78.65% labor force participation rate
  • 4) Cheyenne, WY , 39.8 average workweek hours, 78.08% labor force participation rate
  • 5) Irving, TX , 40.1 average workweek hours, 78.52% labor force participation rate
  • T-6) Jersey City, NJ , 39.5 average workweek hours, 75.02% labor force participation rate
  • T- 6) Garland, TX , 39.5 average workweek hours, 78.25% labor force participation rate
  • 8) San Francisco, CA , 39.6 average workweek hours, 79.06% labor force participation rate
