'Truly Stunning' Yosemite Firefall Lights Up El Capitan: Photo
Horsetail Falls appears to be on fire when the winter sunset hits it just right.

BURLINGAME, CA — Burlingame resident Birte Scholz witnessed a true bucket list event last week: Firefall at Yosemite National Park. "It was an amazing sight," Birte told Patch in an email. "Yosemite's Horsetail Falls 'lights up' looking like a stream of fire cascading down the mountain, when the winter sun hits it just right. It is truly stunning."
There was a six-day window in February to view this phenomenon at its peak. This photo was taken by Birte's daughter Tehya during the peak, on Feb. 22.
