Violent Peninsula Break-In Reported, Prompting Shelter In Place

The shelter in place order was lifted after police discovered the suspects had fled the scene on Monday after tasing a man.

SAN MATEO, CA — A violent San Mateo break-in and attempted robbery on Monday morning prompted a brief shelter in place order in town, police report. The incident also left one person with injuries when the three suspects allegedly attacked him inside the business.

It happened around 4:50 a.m. at a business located in the 1800 block of South Norfolk Street, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

"The caller told our dispatchers he was tased and hit his head after three armed subjects forced their way into the secured business," SMPD said in a news release. "We immediately responded, set a perimeter on the business, and asked residents in the surrounding area to shelter in place as officers searched for the suspects."

Police quickly lifted the order after determining the suspects had fled prior to the arrival of officers, officials said.

"Right now, detectives are reviewing possible surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses," police sadi.
