Who Will Fill Dave Pine’s Seat?
Vacated position on the SMUHSD board of trustees is set to be filled by one of seven candidates during a special meeting tonight.

Seven people have applied for on the San Mateo Union High School District board of trustees – and this evening the board will meet to choose one of them.
Pine, a Burlingame resident, was last May, but his four-year term on the school board was already due to expire this November. Rather than hold a special election for a half-year term, SMUHSD board members decided to appoint someone to fill the post until the November election.
Whoever is appointed tonight will be a short-term incumbent, and must run for election in November to keep the position.

The seven applicants hoping the board will chose them are Charles Zelnik, Jose Gonzalez, Michael Loy, Robert Mason, Elizabeth Frykberg, Rhonda Collins and Marc Friedman. All are expected to attend tonight’s meeting to be interviewed by the board.
The board is scheduled to meet at 4:30 p.m. today in Conference Room A of the District Office, 650 N. Delaware St., San Mateo.
