Woman Killed On Peninsula Caltrain Tracks

Officials are investigating the woman's death.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A woman was struck and killed by a train Wednesday evening at the South San Francisco Caltrain station, Caltrain officials said.

Just before 5 p.m. a southbound train struck the woman who was on the tracks, according to agency officials. No injuries were reported among the 743 passengers on the train.

The woman was trespassing on the tracks, according to Caltrain.

"The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Transit Police Bureau, who patrols the Caltrain corridor, is investigating this evening’s fatal incident," the agency said in an emailed statement. "The final cause of death and identification of the individual will be determined by the San Mateo County Coroner’s office."

Caltrain officials said the death is the eighth this year on their tracks.

"No matter what the circumstances, it is always regrettable when a life is lost," the agency said. "Caltrain reminds everyone to be safe around train tracks."
