Having a lousey summer? Head lice tips for struggling parents!

Facts to consider when removing head lice

Head lice aren't going anywhere soon-they are here to stay!

We might as well face the facts that they are sturdy creatures and we better get educated on how to remove them.

I have put together facts to help the average parent to treat head lice properly.

- If you are doing a "home treatment" find a good natural product either online or in a beauty supply store.
- The comb you use makes a huge difference to whether the lice is all removed or not! I recommend the spiral toothed comb by "My Hair Helpers".
-Make sure you comb every direction of the hair as to remove all eggs and lice. I always use two treatments in one sitting-some lice survive the first treatment.
- Comb daily on wet detangled hair to look for surviving lice or nits.
- Make sure that 4-5 days later you repeat the process again as to break the life cycle of lice.
- Make sure you do tell others in contact with your child. If you hide the fact that you had it you may get it back!
- Have your child wear their hair back with repellant everyday.Hair down acts as a 'bridge" for lice to walk across.
- "Once a week-take a peek" Lice like to return if given an opportunity. It's a scent they pick up that is familiar!
- Always make sure that your focus is the hair and removing all eggs.
- Common sense cleaning is all that is needed.Brushes and combs, bedding and pillows, clothing worn that day only.
Head lice are parasitic and don't last long off the head.Always focus your energy on removing every nit.
If you don't remove all the nits they may hatch and put you back to another treatment.
I hope this helps! I have daughters that get a regular combing with the nit comb from me.It really helps to keep an eye on the hair.
