Mediterranean Pita Grill Brings Middle Eastern Flavors to Calabasas
A new restaurant with fresh recipes and great flavor has opened in Calabasas.
This past month, Mediterranean Pita Grill opened in Calabasas at the Albertsons shopping center on Agoura Road and is serving up fine Middle Eastern favorites.
I went to check out the restaurant and sample some of their popular dishes before the large crowds arrived. This place has gotten very busy during the lunch and dinner rush so be prepared to wait. After sampling the cuisine, I will tell you it is worth it!
Check out the video to see some of the dishes I tried and look below for a full review of the restaurant. Please note this is a personal review. Of course if you have been, your comments and thoughts are must appreciated!

MEDITERRANEAN PITA GRILL
Overall: There aren't too many Mediterranean restaurants in the area so this new eatery is bound to be popular. The service is fast and the owners are there to make sure you are completely satisfied. The decor inside creates the atmosphere of being across the world on the Mediterranean Sea. There is limited seating inside, but plenty outside under a covered awning or under the sun. If you need a new spot for your lunch break, I recommend trying this out or even coming with the family for dinner. The portions are large and their prices are reasonable.

Drinks: There is no alcohol served here. Wanting to try something a little different? Enjoy some Mediterranean Coffee ($1.50). They have a fountain machine with a selection of soft drinks ($1.89), as well as bottled sodas, water, coffee and Red Bull if you are on the go.
Appetizers: I am not exaggerating when I say this is some of the best Hummus ($3.99) I have ever tasted! Served with fresh pita, this Middle Eastern favorite of crushed garbanzo beans is mixed with Tahini, lemon juice, olive oil and paprika. The Falafel ($4.99) appetizer comes with an order of six balls. Delicious! Usually, I am not a big fan of dolma ($3.99), which is grapes leaves stuffed with garbanzo, beans, rice, vegetables and spices, but I enjoyed these. All appetizers are served with pita bread and assorted pickles.
Salads: The Greek Salad ($5.99) was my favorite with freshly chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, feta and calamata olives drizzled with olive oil and lemon juice. The Mediterranean Salad ($5.99) is similar, but full of bell peppers and topped with a delicious house dressing. Feeling like mint? Try the Cabbage Salad ($5.99) with chopped green cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers and dry mint with the house dressing. You can add boneless rotisserie chicken to any salad for $1.99.
Sandwiches: All sandwiches are served in a pita pocket bread or in a flour tortilla. You can add fries and a drink for $2.25. The Shish Kabob ($5.39), filled with season beef or chicken breast, lettuce, tomatoes and tahini sauce is a must try! The meats cook slowly, starting early in the morning making them delicious, juicy and tender. My personal favorite? The Falafel ($3.99) is three fried falafel balls rolled with lettuce, tomatoes and tahini sauce. Another crowd pleaser is the Roasted Chicken ($4.99) with garlic spread and pickles.
Plates: If you are a vegetarian, this is a great restaurant for you. The Falafel Plate ($6.99) comes with six pieces of falafel, hummus, a house salad and pita bread. You can also get the Vegetarian Combo ($7.99) with falafel, dolma, hummus and mutabal. The Kabob Plates ($7.99) are my favorite with two skewers of marinated chicken, beef, or a combo. They are served with hummus, a house salad and rice or french fries. They also have Chicken Plates ($4.99/$6.99) served with salad, hummus and rice or french fries. Wanting to try a traditional plate? Try the Chicken or Beef Shawerma Plate ($7.99). The meats are slowly cooked on the vertical grill. Simply delicious.
Dessert: Currently the only dessert on the menu is Baklava ($1.50). Cooked fresh daily this flaky and nutty dessert is simply scrumptious.
