📰 News we're reading

1. Rodenticides still a very sticky issue (mpacorn.com) — Calabasas has strengthened its stance on animal protection, expanding a prior rodenticide resolution to discourage all rodent poisons and glue traps citywide. The City Council's new policy commits city facilities to non-toxic pest control and urges residents and businesses to switch to humane, integrated methods that protect pets, wildlife, and neighborhood ecosystems.

2. Calabasas Chamber Hosts Mayor's Lunch (valleynewsgroup.com) — Calabasas residents just got a detailed update from Mayor James Bozajian on new taxes, development projects, and neighborhood changes at the annual Chamber Mayor's Lunch. He highlighted the new one‑cent city sales tax, annexation of Craftsman Corner, and upcoming workshops on Old Town, while reflecting on growth, traffic, and the pushback against state‑driven "mindless urbanization."

3. Photos: Under the bright lights at Friday night's high school football games (dailynews.com) — Calabasas High School took center stage under the Friday night lights, hosting Burbank in one of several Southern California football games captured in a big photo gallery. Local fans can spot Calabasas quarterback Dominik Hardy and teammates in action, along with scenes from other standout matchups played across the region on September 4.

4. Grant funds support 15 wildlife, conservation projects (oakdaleleader.com) — A statewide wildlife board just met at King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas to approve nearly $44 million for 15 conservation projects across California. While the grants mainly fund habitat restoration, Tribal land stewardship, and desert protections elsewhere, the decision‑making happening in Calabasas underscores the city's role in shaping major environmental policy for the state.

5. LA County Cracks Down on Contractor Scams Targeting Fire Survivors (smdp.com) — Los Angeles County is rolling out tougher protections against contractor fraud targeting wildfire survivors, and Calabasas residents are included through Supervisor Horvath's district and the local One-Stop Permitting Center. Homeowners will soon see more guidance on verifying licenses, spotting scams, and getting help, with resources integrated into the Calabasas permitting hub as rebuilding continues across affected areas.
