"At this point, we have located several human bones," Sheriff's Lt. Rodney Moore said.

CALABASAS, CA – Detectives are searching for clues Thursday to help them determine whether the human skeletal remains found on state park land in Calabasas belonged to a man or woman.

Caltrans workers discovered the remains about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday along a hiking trail in the 25100 block of Calabasas Road, according to Deputy Kimberly Alexander of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

"At this point, we have located several human bones," Sheriff's Lt. Rodney Moore told ABC7. "We are unable to determine a cause of death or any identifying features regarding that decedent."

The area where the remains were found is several miles from the site in Malibu Creek State Park where 35-year-old Tristan Beaudette, a father of two from Irvine, was shot to death on June 22, a crime that remains unsolved.

After Beaudette's death, sheriff's officials said they investigated six other reports of shootings or calls about possible gunfire occurring near the park going back to November 2016.
