• Wild turkeys keep shutting off the power in small SLO County town (sanluisobispo.com) — Cambria residents have endured a string of early-morning power outages this summer, and PG&E now says wild turkeys are to blame. Large flocks roosting near lines are triggering fire-safety shutoffs when they take off, cutting electricity for homes and businesses. Crews have adjusted line spacing to reduce future outages, and the utility is asking locals for patience.
   

• Jimmy Panetta marks Social Security Act anniversary and announces local federal funding (montereytimes.com) — Nearly $1 million in federal funding is headed to the Cambria Fire Department for a much-needed new fire engine, aimed at strengthening local public safety. Congressman Jimmy Panetta announced the funding while also marking the Social Security Act anniversary and highlighting other infrastructure investments in his district.
   

• 15-year-old boy killed, 3 teens injured in Highway 1 rollover crash in SLO County (sanluisobispo.com) — Cambria families are directly affected after a late-night Highway 1 rollover near Harmony Headlands killed a 15-year-old Morro Bay boy and seriously injured a 17-year-old Cambria girl. CHP says an 18-year-old Cambria man’s Camaro hit a guardrail, went down an embankment and overturned, ejecting the two unbelted back-seat passengers. Highway 1 was closed for several hours as investigators worked the scene.
