40-Foot Tree Falls On Highway 101, Damages 2 Teslas In Bay Area: Police

The tree fell in the northbound lanes of the highway, blocking traffic for hours, police said.

SUNNYVALE, CA — A 40-foot-tall tree crashed down onto the northbound lanes of Highway 101 in Sunnyvale Thursday afternoon, severely damaging two Tesla vehicles and blocking multiple lanes for hours, according to California Highway Patrol.

Emergency crews responded to the scene just south of the Fair Oaks Avenue offramp around 12:13 p.m.

The tree fell across the right lanes, where it struck two white Tesla sedans. One vehicle sustained major damage around the entire car, while the second suffered major front-end damage, KRON4 reported a CHP incident log stated.

The fallen tree temporarily blocked all but one northbound lane of the highway. CHP initially reported the incident just after 12:45 p.m., noting that traffic was heavily impacted.

All lanes were reported back open by 2:25 p.m.
