SAN JOSE, CA — A woman seen in a viral video was arrested after San Jose police linked her to a series of incidents involving discriminatory remarks, including a hate-motivated encounter involving a father and his child, authorities said.
Police said the investigation began Sunday after an adult woman approached the father and daughter multiple times in her car on the 6400 block of Aspen Creek and accused the man of trafficking the child because he has darker skin than his daughter
San Jose police used automated license plate reader cameras to identify the vehicle and suspect, according to the department.
During the investigation, detectives determined the same woman was connected to a series of other incidents reported in San Jose, including an incident at a South San Jose high school on Wednesday, police said.
In a video obtained by KRON4, the woman taunts the father and daughter from her car.
"Are you buying or selling today?" she asks.
"I was already uncomfortable because she had approached my daughter, so I was taken aback," the father told KRON4. "She asked me the same question again."
The San Jose Unified School District sent out an alert to the community on Thursday.
"We have received reports of an individual harassing members of our community, including recording videos and taking photographs and posting content on social media," the district stated.
Detectives located and arrested the woman in San Jose.
She was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on multiple charges, including stalking and hate crimes, police said.
The investigation remains active.
