Campbell Three-Day Festival Kicks Off Tomorrow

St. Lucy's 25th annual Food and Fun Fest kicks off Oct. 7 and goes through Sunday, Oct. 9.

Weather forecasters are promising a pleasant weekend, sans rain and the community at St. Lucy School is breathing a sigh of relief.

The 25th annual kicks off tomorrow, Oct. 7 and according to the school's Principal Jennifer Martin, the festival will happen rain or shine.

"We looked at the 10-day forecast though," Martin says. "Everything looks good for tomorrow. We're supposed to have  a bright sunny weekend, with high 70s low 80s."

The event is a pinnacle one for the Campbell school, for two reasons.

"It really is very much a centerpiece of our community building," Martin says, now in her seventh year as Principal at St. Lucy School. "That’ s how it started. The second portion of it is that it’s a fundraiser for our school. It helps keeps tuition low."

The weekend will include festival rides, games and food as well as an alumni reception, 300 gift baskets and $5,000 raffle done at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

"This is now going back a generation," Martin says."There's a lot of different things for everyone. We are building community. It's an incredible social event."

Martin has been coming to these festivals every year for the last seven and she says, although the festival has tripled in size the atmosphere has remained the same.

"It's very charming, wholesome," she says.

But her favorite aspect, hands down are the people.

"Kids and their parents come back, grandparents are here, it's a great mix of people," Martin says. "We love all the local walk-ins from the community. It's very reflective of the whole community: busy, cheerful and fun."

The Carnival entrance will be at the corner of Winchester Boulevard and Budd Avenue.
