Fruit Ripe for the Picking: In Your Backyard

Tuesday evening classes in Campbell will teach you how to establish and grow berries, grapes, citrus and avocados in your own garden.

Did you know that our mild Mediterranean climate allows us to grow a dazzling variety of fruit? While this drought year is a tough one on our landscapes--and we don’t recommend establishing plants this summer--it is the perfect time to learn and plan for fall & wintertime planting!

This 3 evening course stresses how sustainable gardening practices such as efficient watering methods, integrated pest management and use of organic fertilizers and soil amendments apply to establishing and growing citrus, avocados, grapes, and a variety of berries: blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries. We’ll also be sure to cover drought survival strategies: how to keep your mature trees and vines alive even with the water rationing many of us are facing here in the Santa Clara Valley.
