Mothers, Daughters Of Local National Charity League Send Care Packages To Troops

On Sunday, January 24, 2016 over 100 Mothers and Daughters of the National Charity League Chapter of Saratoga/Los Gatos gathered at the Foothill Club in Saratoga to create care packages, thoughtful thank you cards, and beautiful blank cards for the philanthropy Operation Care and Comfort that provides support for deployed U.S. military service members.

Over 4,000 individual items were collected by the chapter through chapter member donations and community donations to create and assemble 700 care packages. Hundreds of heartfelt thank you cards with personal notes and beautifully decorated blank cards for U.S. soldiers to use for writing home to their loved ones were also created. The care packages were bundled in colorful, reusable red white and blue kerchiefs.

Of special note was a donation of 700 toothbrushes, 700 flosses, and 700 toothpaste tubes by the dental office of Dr. Don Goudy!

A letter was recently sent to the NCL Satatoga/Los Gatos Chapter from a deployed soldier in regards to one of the thank you cards received that included the following statement “I want everyone who wrote and write in support of all of us know that their appreciation and heartfelt wishes are truly fantastic to all of us.”

The NCL Saratoga/Los Gatos Philanthropy Day event is just one example of the positive impact organizations in our community have when everyone works together to achieve great results for a great cause!

Operation Care and Comfort is a nationally recognized program that supports troops, veterans and their families while serving in conflict regions, while serving on humanitarian missions and when they return home.

The National Charity League, Inc. (NCL) is a non-profit corporation composed of mother and daughter groups, organized to initiate and encourage charitable endeavors and to foster the mother-daughter relationship in philanthropic, cultural and social training. NCL has more than 180 chapters and more than 50,000 members.Annually the members of the Saratoga-Los Gatos Chapter of NCL, volunteer approximately 6,000 hands-on hours in the local community.
