South Bay Underground Casino Operation Nets 7 Arrests

The illegal gambling operation was found at a South Bay location that was a hub for other illegal activities, police said.

SAN JOSÉ, CA — A South Bay illegal gambling investigation culminated with the arrests of seven suspects, San José police said in a news release.

The suspects, all San José residents between 35 of 53 years of ages, were arrested on unspecified charges. They were identified as Nhu Huynh (48), Anita Nguyen (53), Truong Trang (51), Dat Nguyen (46), Thang Nguyen (54), Phuoc Nguyen (52)and Quynh Pham (35).

One of those arrested had a loaded gun and cocaine on his person and five had outstanding felony warrants, police said.

The underground casino was operating in the area of North Capitol Avenue and Avenue B, according to police.

Authorities described the location as a hub for illegal activities including gambling, drug dealing, and the buying and selling of stolen property. A stabbing case was linked to a casino operator, police said.

Detectives recovered seven ounces of cocaine, a makeshift crack-cocaine conversion laboratory, several thousand dollars cash, multiple casino machines, and stolen retail property, police said.
