October 24: Druha Trava, a bluegrass-influenced band from the Czech Republic. In the Czech language, druha trava means “second grass.” Reaching beyond bluegrass, the band uses American roots music as a starting point for a synthesis of jazz, pop, folk and even classical motifs.

November 1: Traditional trio One Lane Bridge. Fusing folk styles from Ireland, Scotland, Sweden and Spain with modern influences, One Lane Bridge features William Coulter on guitar, John Weed on fiddle and Aria DiSalvia on cello. Their rhythmically vibrant, melodically engaging chamber-folk music is both ancient and fresh.

November 8: Berkeley-based Front Country. A six-piece new acoustic ensemble fronted by the vibrant young duo of Melody Walker and Jacob Groopman, Front Country represents the next generation of Americana talent to come out of the Berkeley acoustic music scene. The band won accolades at the 2012 RockyGrass Festival and the 2013 Telluride Festival.

November 15: Primary Colors featuring the jazz vocals of San Jose Jazz Lifetime Achievement Award-winner Nate Pruit, along with the guitar wizardry of Rick Vandivier. This show is a great opportunity for long-time fans familiar with Primary Colors through the vibrant San Jose club scene to hear Nate and Rick in a concert setting.

November 21: Satirical singer-songwriter Cosy Sheridan, with her wide-ranging explorations of modern mythology (meet Hades the Biker), love songs for adults, contemporary philosophy for the thoughtfully-minded and her signature parody on aging and women.

December 12: World renowned acoustic guitarist Peppino D’Agostino closes out the Fall Series. D’Agostino’s virtuosic technique, penchant for open tunings, and percussive effects are the basis of his unique compositional style. Add to that his natural warmth, playfulness, and broad musical tastes and you have the recipe for what he calls “minestrone music.”

In addition to its concert series, Woodshed Music & Arts also presents Doug Young’s Acoustic Guitar Night. On the first Sunday of every month, Doug invites two other acoustic guitarists from the Bay Area and beyond, to join him on the Woodshed stage ‘round robin’ style. Past guests have included Mark Goldenberg who toured with Jackson Brown for 20 years, and rising star Goh Kurasawa.

On Saturday December 13, Woodshed Music & Arts sponsors the 31st Annual Gryphon Carolers Concert at Canada College Theatre in Redwood City. This popular holiday ‘variety show’ style event has become a tradition, led by jazz guitarist and vocal arranger Ed Johnson and popular guitarist and educator Carol McComb.
