Bites Nearby: Sushi on the Run
If you need quick sushi, this spot will get the job done.
It's not tough to find sushi in Santa Cruz, but once you drive south of Capitola, the selection gets a bit sparse. If you haven't stopped by Sushi on the Run in Aptos (7957 Soquel Dr.), you might give it a shot and see if it's up to your standard for Japanese fare.
The building is unassuming, and you could easily drive right by it without a second glance. But don't let the drab paint and name of the joint fool you into thinking it's fast food. It's not. It's all about convenience.
The Drill: There are just a couple of parking spots to the left of the restaurant. Thankfully it's in-and-out nature makes that a minor issue. Order at the counter past the sliding glass door inside and take a seat while you wait for your food. There is one table outside and just a few more indoors. Expect no more than a 10-minute wait.

The Food: For being more or less a hole in the wall, the menu is impressively large. They've got well over 20 different rolls, a selection of donburi bowls and an expected array of appetizers. The Recommendation: The June roll (crab cake, bay shrimp, cucumber, fish roe and mayo) as well as the albacore roll (albacore, carrot, avocado and green onions) pair well with the sweet vinegar cucumber salad.
