Did you know that Jan. 23 is National Pie Day?

The celebration was created by the National Pie Council, and according to its website, "as part of our American heritage, this day is a perfect opportunity to pass on the love and enjoyment of pie eating and pie making to future generations."

According to the National Pie Council, it's important in pie making to read a recipe in its entirety before starting to bake, use cold ingredients, work dough minimally, bake in the lower third of the oven and use fresh ingredients.
