• New Marathon Joins Santa Cruz Community, Nears Sell-Out Weeks Ahead of Event (endurancesportswire.com) — Capitola runners will soon see their village featured on the inaugural Santa Cruz Marathon course, which traces the coast from the Boardwalk through Capitola Village and out to Wilder Ranch. With the marathon and 5K already sold out, locals still have a chance to register for the half marathon and enjoy ocean views, local landmarks, and race swag in this new regional event.
   

• Capitola woman says she was attacked by a sea lion (nbcbayarea.com) — A Capitola resident was knocked off her board and bitten by a sea lion Tuesday morning between Capitola Wharf and Privates Beach near Pleasure Point, leaving her needing tetanus and rabies shots. Marine experts say sea lion bites are rare but note many California sea lions are currently sick from domoic acid, and researchers are studying whether warmer ocean temperatures are playing a role.
