• Woman Knocked Off Paddleboard, Bitten By Sea Lion Near Santa Cruz Coast (sfist.com) — A longtime local paddleboarder was knocked off her board and bitten several times by a sea lion while paddling between Capitola Wharf and Privates Beach, highlighting unusual marine animal behavior right off Capitola's coast. Officials link recent aggressive encounters to a spike in domoic acid poisoning among sea lions and urge Capitola-area swimmers, surfers, and paddlers to keep their distance and exit the water calmly if approached.
