TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Accident Has Closed Hwy 1 Near Ano Nuevo State Beach

Both directions affected, and the closure may be in place for several hours.

One person was killed and two others were injured in a collision that has blocked state Highway 1 near Ano Nuevo State Park in San Mateo County this evening, according to the California Highway Patrol. At about 5:40 p.m., officers responded to a report of a head-on collision on Highway 1 near Green Oaks Way, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.

The collision was between a GMC truck and Nissan Altima, he said. One person was killed and two others were injured, Van Eckhardt said. Emergency crews and the San Mateo County coroner’s office has been called to the scene, he said.

A Sig-alert was issued at 6:28 p.m. closing all lanes in both directions between Pescadero and Santa Cruz, according to the CHP. Traffic is being diverted off Highway 1 near Green Oaks Way, CHP officials said.

There is no estimated time of when the roadway will reopen, according to the CHP.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious accident on Highway 1, approximately two miles north of Ano Nuevo State Beach.

Both directions of the highway are closed -- and are expected to be closed -- for several hours.

Officers advise using alternate routes.
