Uber Becomes Third Ridesharing Outfit At SJ Airport

Ridesharing company Uber made its debut at Mineta San Jose International Airport Friday.

Uber is now the third rideshare company now permitted to pick up and drop off passengers at the airport, airport officials said.

“Silicon Valley travelers want a variety of choices for getting to and from the airport and we are happy to see Uber join the growing list of transportation providers serving SJC,” San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said in a statement.

Late last month, the airport announced that it had reached an agreement with transportation company Wingz, allowing it operate at the airport.

On Dec. 11, the airport then announced that Lyft would be the second ridesharing company permitted to operate at the airport.

“Travelers this holiday season and those making plans for Super Bowl 50 will now be able to push a button to get the safe, affordable and reliable ride they have come to expect,” Uber’s Bay Area General Manager Wayne Ting said in a statement.

The companies began to start operating one-by-one at the airport after the San Jose city council unanimously approved modifications last month, requiring the ridesharing drivers to pass background checks and obtain city business licenses.
