3 Children Spark Carlsbad Brush Fire While Playing With Fireworks

CARLSBAD, CA – Three children playing with fireworks sparked a brush fire Sunday in Carlsbad, police said.

After receiving a call about a brush fire, firefighters were dispatched shortly before 1 p.m. to the intersection of Colt Place and Gateway Road. Carlsbad Police Lt. Jason Jackowski said firefighters contained and extinguished the fire within 15 minutes – before it could damage any structures.

"Three juveniles were contacted and admitted to lighting fireworks in the area which ignited the dry brush," Jackowski said. "The juveniles were released to their parents."

No injuries were reported.
