CARLSBAD, CA — More than 200 guests from Ronald McDonald House Southern California were treated to a day at Legoland California Resort during the opening weekend of the Carlsbad theme park's Brick or Treat Halloween celebration.
Children affected by childhood cancer, along with their siblings and parents, visited the park Saturday as part of a collaboration among Legoland, Merlin's Magic Wand Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Southern California. The outing coincided with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
The families are part of Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, a program that provides free, medically supported experiences for children with cancer and their siblings.
Siblings Daniel, 11, and Esme, 9, were among the children who attended. Daniel was diagnosed with cancer as a toddler and is now cancer-free, according to organizers. The siblings have participated in Camp Ronald McDonald programs throughout their childhood.
During the outing, families experienced Legoland's Brick or Treat festivities, including the new Brick or Treat Street, which features six life-size Lego Monster homes with interactive effects and treats.
Other seasonal attractions include Halloween-themed versions of Galacticoaster and The Dragon, character meet-and-greets, live entertainment, the Prehistoric Pumpkin Patch, the Great Monster Chase 4D Movie and a 17-foot Lego Halloween Tree.
Merlin's Magic Wand, the children's charity of Legoland parent company Merlin Entertainments, provides experiences at Merlin attractions for children facing illness, disability or other challenges.
Brick or Treat continues on select dates through Nov. 1 at Legoland.
