Calling All Cake Decorators

Both professional and amateur cake decorators are invited to participate in a Cake Exhibition and Competition presented by Ro Z’s Sweet Art Studio at the ArtSplash chalk art festival taking place on Sept. 24-25 on Armada Drive in Carlsbad.

The entry fee is $15 before July 25 and $20 after that date. The decorating motif will be based on the 2011 ArtSplash theme of “Rock Around the Beach.” Guidelines and applications are here. 

The cake contest takes place at the event on Sept. 25. According to Rosanne Zinniger of Ro Z’s, cakes will be judged on theme, technique, attention to detail and workmanship. A judging committee will award first-, second- and third-place prizes. A people’s choice award also will be given; ArtSplash-goers can vote on their favorite cakes.

Zinniger, who will purvey her scrumptious cake pops, says edible art will be a fun feature of ArtSplash. She notes, “New this year is a cake demonstration booth, where professional cake artists from the Creative Confection Club of North San Diego will share décor tips, tricks and techniques.” People also can bid on silent auction items provided by dessert specialists.
