The targeted proteomic company landed in Carlsbad a year ago. Here's what it's built since.

CARLSBAD — A year ago, a New Zealand-founded biotech quietly set up shop in Carlsbad. Twelve months later, Pictor Holdings Inc. is anything but quiet.

The company, which developed a platform that allows laboratories to test for up to 20 proteins in a single sample in under two hours, is marking its first anniversary at its U.S. headquarters with a string of commercial milestones: seven products on the market, four strategic partnerships secured, a new purpose-built lab, and a leadership team that has nearly doubled.

“A year ago, we joined the innovative Carlsbad biotech community. What the past twelve months have shown us is that the demand is real, the partnerships are real, and the platform performs.” — Jamie Platt, PhD, CEO and Co-founder, Pictor Holdings Inc.

Among the highlights: a collaboration with a top-20 global pharmaceutical company, a commercial deal with Disease Research Limited in New Zealand to launch a veterinary diagnostic assay across the country's dairy sector, and three peer-reviewed studies published in scientific journals. The company also closed a $5 million pre-Series A convertible note backed by existing shareholders and a new U.S. investor.

Pictor’s technology, a targeted proteomic platform, is aimed at labs that currently rely on slower, more expensive single-analyte tests. By running multiple analytes in one workflow at a lower cost, the platform is designed to make a category of testing that has historically been out of reach for many labs more accessible — across pharma, reference labs, and veterinary medicine.

The Carlsbad facility has grown alongside the business. A new BSL-2 equipped lab has been built out on-site to support expanded research and development, and two senior executives joined the team: Terry Kelly, PhD, as Chief Operating Officer, who brings more than 20 years in assay development and oncology research, and Tim Shannon as Chief Financial Officer, a biotech finance veteran who previously worked with CEO Platt on a major acquisition at a prior company.

Looking ahead, Pictor is targeting a U.S. Series A of up to $30 million to scale manufacturing, expand its team and patent portfolio, and advance partner led assays across multiple therapeutic areas. The company currently holds 16 patents and five pending, with seven registered trademarks.
