Video: Carlsbad Artist Colors the Town With Airbrush
Jo Ann Mauck is most known for the shirts she makes and sells at county fairs.
Jo Ann Mauck discovered her talent for airbrushing about 30 years ago. A couple years later, in 1984, her and her husband Byron bought a motorhome and drove across the U.S. and Canada setting up booths at fairs and selling her art.
Today, the couple resides in Carlsbad with an in-home studio selling work under the company name Art Attacks Ink. She's been showcasing her work at the San Diego County and Orange County fairs since 1985.
"From June 8 to Oct. 16, I work nonstop without barely a day off, and those days off I'm usually doing something work related," Mauck said.

Even in her off-season, when the county fairs are not on, she's still busy. She has a number of a regular clients, and she paints helmets for girls in the Amateur Softball Association.
"Girls love to have their helmets painted," said Mauck who loves to paint animals the most. "When they are young they want butterflies and sparkles, but as they get older they want skulls and blood."

Little League doesn't allow the boys to have helmets painted, but she does paint helmets of skiiers, snowboarders and anyone else who might want one done. Prices start at $30. She also paints banners for sports teams, cars, boats, and even UGG boots and TOMS shoes at a Norstroms in Orange County.
