Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning, Beware of Price, Pt 2

In the previous article I gave you the first reason for not asking about price first when hiring a carpet cleaner.  (We are not all the same and price has little to do with how good you will get.  And there are better things to ask, at least at first.)
Now in this post I will discuss the 2nd reason to not ask about price first.

  • Basically, most carpet cleaners are deceptive and will try to get more money from you when they arrive.  It's really true, as a whole we are a deceptive bunch, ranking right up there with used car salesman, and flim flam men of all kinds.  What do I mean by that?  Usually carpet cleaners have no intention of charging you the price they quoted on the phone.  They really see you as a wallet to take money  from.  When they arrive they will want to charge extra for this or that.  Try to sell you add on services that you really should buy to get the best possible job, etc.  That's why asking about price first is a waste of time.  The price they quote on the phone is not the price they want to charge when they arrive.  This most often happens when they quote you a cheap price, but don't be fooled most will try it, (you want fries with that.) The art of up selling is even taught in most carpet cleaning courses and schools.  To me it's despicable.  Everything necessary to do a proper job should be included in the price.  And any add on services should be discussed when you first talk to them on the phone.   So when they arrive there are no surprises.  That's why asking price is useless until you find out what is included.  Ask the carpet cleaner what's included in their price.  Tell them that if they try to charge you more they will be asked to leave and so on.  To be forewarned is to be forearmed.  Don't get taken advantage of by deceptive and unscrupulous businessmen in any industry.  Ask the right questions first then you'll get a good feel for whether you're getting a good deal or not.  We have been doing carpet and upholstery cleaning in Carlsbad and All San Diego for over 25 years and stand ready to answer any questions you may have.  Please call me anytime.  Vic Sinai 760 753 7373 or see my website  for more information.
