Carpet Cleaners, Beware of Price

We have been a Carpet Cleaning Company in Carlsbad since 1988 and have learned quite a bit about our business and business in general since then.  Price shopping is what I want to write about this time.  I'll begin by saying that people who ask about price first thing ie, "what's does it cost," etc are making a huge mistake when trying to hire a carpet & upholstery cleaning company.  Two primary reasons come to mind.

  • First we are not all equal.  Buying a carpet cleaning service is not like buying Toyota Corolla.  It's the same product no matter where you buy so shop all the different outlets until you get the best price then buy.  You've gotten a good deal.  No, carpet cleaning is a service that depends on the operators knowledge, experience and willingness to take the time to do a good job.  I can come to your home and blast through the job in an hour or I can take my time and do a thorough job and have it take 2 or 3 hours.  Hopefully you want the guy who will take the time to do a good job and of course that will take time.  Time costs money.  There is no way your're going to get the best or even a good job for the cheapest price.  So what do you want a cheap price or a clean, healthy carpet?  Asking about price has nothing to do with that.  It only shows the operator how little you know about his business.  Don't do it.  Instead ask about experience, spotting techniques, traffic lane pre treatments, will they all be done and included in the price?  Ask questions that give you feel for how much this person cares about you and your home and whether he will take the time to do a good job.  Will he treat you like a person or a wallet to extract money from?  More on that when we discuss the second reason to not ask about price first.
  • Second Reason To Not Ask About Price First.  More on this next time.
